“Being a young African woman growing up in Stellenbosch with a Malawian mom and a Zulu dad is both a tough and exciting experience. We live in a society where the way your hair looks is more important than earning good grades in school. The idea behind My Pink Comb is all about African women empowerment. I hope the symbol of this comb will remind women that they can do whatever they like with their hair, whether they wear it natural, relaxed, braided or straightened, it’s all up to them. They should not be afraid to be judged or criticised by society for the way their hair looks. Your hair does not define you as a woman – embrace yourself and do what you think is the best for you.”
