Selina was born in Malawi on 18 February 1997, the third of five children. Her father is South African and her mother Malawian, and the family moved to Cape Town when she was four years old. She started doing art at the age of six while at PC Pietersen Primary School at Kylemore. She continued art classes at Frank’s Heaven with the support of Jeanne Bestbier-Bloch. Her talent was discovered at a KickstART workshop in 2012 where she was selected to take part in the Deloitte KickstART bursary programme. Through this programme Selina attended Visual Art classes at the P.J Olivier Art School where she specialised in Painting. She matriculated 5th in her grade in 2015 from Kylemore High School with a distinction in Visual Art. Selena plans to further her studies, focusing on education, so that she can share her love of art with future generations.
