Deconstruction

The image is part of a new series Faith is working on titled Deconstruction, in which she is breaking apart images and reconstructing them into fragmented, mosaic or mandala-like pattern work.

This particular image is a photo taken by Imraan Christiaan of the Fees Must Fall protests in Cape Town last year. The overall image is powerful- both aesthetically and conceptually- and becomes particularly compelling in the context of Stellenbosch as a university town. The delicate pink hue which shrouds the image is in fact, poignantly, from the pink tear gas that the police were using.

We will be deconstructing the image and applying the artwork in actual squares (see image below). The act of the paper potentially slowly being torn off of the wall in sections is something we are interested in documenting over time. Faith is interested in de-constructing this work when the boards come down and reconstructing it into a more formal installation work at some point.
