Dreamscapes: Official Opening
2026-02-26
The official opening of the Stellenbosch Outdoor Sculpture Trust’s 2026 annual exhibition was hosted on the rooftop of the Andmar Building on the evening of 26 February 2026.
Dreamscapes – Form and space through curious eyes, curated by Dr Mike Mavura, honours the creative spirit that flows through Stellenbosch’s streets. The sculptural forms in this exhibition add to the town’s dreamscape, unfolding on pavements, on building walls, and in everyday spaces. Dotted across town, these artworks form an art route designed for unexpected encounters with the public.
Founding Trustee and Project Director Andi Norton guided the evening, followed by a warm welcome from Jean Minnaar (Managing Director of Private Clients by Old Mutual), and an insightful curatorial overview from Mavura.
The panel discussion, facilitated by Andi Norton and featuring guest speakers curator Mike Mavura, exhibition artist Ralph Borland, and exhibition artist Faatimah Mohamed-Luke, explored “When does Making become Art?” and the blurred lines between art and craft in the age of the artisan. The evening closed with remarks from Khulekani Ndzimande (SOST Trustee).
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this memorable opening, and special mention to our exhibition patrons, Private Clients by Old Mutual and Visit Stellenbosch, for helping make public art a meaningful part of the Stellenbosch experience for locals and visitors alike.
