Artist’s statement

This artwork represents South Africa that is at a critical crossroads in its history, a time when the powers that be discuss and fight over policy directions for the country. One of the street names has been left out to show the uncertainty of the present situation. The viewer is challenged to consider taking another road that is open and that can possibly be followed. Stellenbosch, being a centre for learning and knowledge, is a particularly apt site for this artwork.
