Stitch in Time

Barend de Wet

2012

20 Stellenbosch

“Stitch in Time”plays with the old saying “a stitch in time saves nine” to explore ideas of care, repair, and the small, everyday actions that hold things together before they fall apart. It draws on de Wet’s interest in knitting, textiles and hand‑work, using stitching both literally and metaphorically to question how value is assigned to “craft” versus “fine art,” and to suggest that mending—of bodies, clothes, relationships or societies—can itself be a radical, creative act.
