Starlings are clever and resourceful birds at home in nature or in the city, and they are found all down the East Coast of Africa from Somalia to Cape Town and in Stellenbosch too.  Along with the giant grass sculpture on Ryneveld Street, both artworks draw playful attention to small natural elements that exist in urban spaces that might otherwise be overlooked. The work also reflects on the resourcefulness and tenacity of the people who live in this town as they go about their daily lives.
