Fly away home

Fly away home

Jacques Dhont

2012

20 Stellenbosch

“Fly away home” shows the pull between rootedness in the earth and a longing to escape or return “home,” using organic, plant‑like forms to suggest both growth and flight. Dhont often works with natural media and vessel‑ or pod‑shaped structures, and a title like “Fly away home” brings out the idea that seeds, leaves or pods can “travel” through the air, carrying the possibility of new life somewhere else while still referring back to their place of origin.
