Falsework II

Kyle Morland

2013

Dreamscapes

Through the manipulation of materials, Morland’s sculptures address issues of subjectivity and social representation, expressing a fascination with spatial relations. Made with the precision of an engineer, his sculptures often appear as misplaced industrial parts. Construction supplies are his medium of choice, from mild steel sheeting to commercial paint. The scale of his sculptural work often compels viewers to measure themselves against the work. The sculptures speak of a playful engagement with contrasting notions of form, scale, weight and context. Sometimes Morland uses the offcuts of his sculptures to make new work, re-evaluating the use and form of commonly discarded materials.
