Egon Tania
Netherlands
B. 1968
Egon Tania is a Dutch-born South African sculptor whose works, often depictions of the human form in wood or bronze, are prominently featured in various locations around Stellenbosch, particularly within the Cape Winelands sculpture gardens. He primarily uses wood and bronze, blending traditional European carving influences with the expressive character of African carving. His work is narrative, often based on observations of everyday people, such as those he saw on the route between Woodstock and Observatory. His public sculptures in Cape Town are so lifelike they are sometimes mistaken for real people.
