Grounded I & II
Angus Taylor
2012
20 Stellenbosch
“Grounded I & II” by Angus Taylor are about the idea of being literally and metaphorically “grounded” – rooted in the earth, in a specific place, and in ordinary human experience, rather than elevated on a heroic pedestal. The paired works explore how a human figure relates to the land: their heavy, low-slung forms suggest weight, gravity and vulnerability, turning the body into a kind of landscape that emphasizes stability, endurance, and connection to South African soil.
